Meet the Team

Ignatius du Preez

Ignatius du Preez

Ignatius du Preez is the Founder, CEO, and Chief Architect at PreZtacks Pty Ltd, bringing over 20 years of hands-on experience in software engineering. Based in Gauteng, his career started with a simple curiosity for programming as a teenager, which quickly turned into a long-term pursuit of mastering the craft. Early in his career, he experienced firsthand how difficult it can be for engineers to grow in environments that lack guidance and structure. That exposure shaped how he views engineering teams and ultimately led to the creation of PreZtacks.

After working across different environments, from fast-growing teams with strong learning cultures to large corporate organisations, he saw a consistent pattern: strong technical outcomes depend heavily on how people are supported and managed. PreZtacks was built to remove unnecessary complexity, reduce burnout, and create a space where engineers at any level can contribute, learn, and grow. The company operates with a strong focus on work-life balance and people-oriented values, while maintaining high engineering standards.

Ignatius approaches software development with a focus on solving the right problems and building systems that are designed to scale from the start. He places a strong emphasis on avoiding shortcuts that create long-term technical debt, understanding that these decisions often lead to higher costs and delays down the line. At the same time, he believes that the quality of the people behind the software is what ultimately determines its success.

He values teams that are aligned, supportive, and open to learning from one another. Respect for every team member's input, regardless of seniority, is a key part of how he builds and leads teams. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to improve systems and processes, not to assign blame. One principle he consistently reinforces is the importance of asking questions early and often, as clarity and communication are critical to delivering reliable, high-quality software.

At PreZtacks, his focus is on building an environment where engineers are supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to grow into experts in their field, while consistently delivering enterprise-grade software to clients.

Debbie van Schalkwyk

Debbie van Schalkwyk

Some enterprises run on shaky code and wishful thinking. PreZtacks runs because Debbie van Schalkwyk quietly keeps the engine from tearing itself apart. A Free State native with two university qualifications and eight years in the corporate trenches, she operates as the grease in the machine — not flashy, not loud, but absolutely essential to keeping everything moving without sparks flying.

Her approach is grounded in disciplined worst-case scenario planning, because in her world, optimism without preparation is just negligence in a nicer outfit. She's also the one reminding everyone that software isn't built for machines — it's built for people, and clients deserve to be treated like humans, not tickets in a queue.

Internally, she carries the uncomfortable truth most leaders avoid: business is personal. Every decision lands somewhere between profit and people, and pretending otherwise is how companies lose both. The result is a culture that actually respects work-life balance while staying relentlessly people-oriented, which sounds simple until you realize how few companies can pull it off without breaking something.

Ettiene Phillips

Ettiene Phillips

Ettiene Phillips, our Software Engineer from Mpumalanga, is the kind of developer who sees software engineering not just as a job, but as a long commitment to constant growth and refinement.

Even in his early 20s, he exhibits the kind of qualities commonly found only in senior development positions. He's driven by curiosity and the satisfaction of getting better every day, which fits neatly into how we operate at PreZtacks.

Outside of work, you'll find him balancing life the right way — whether that's diving into First Person Shooter games, editing gameplay clips, or spending time with his wife. He runs on coffee, keeps things grounded, and, in a rare moment of honesty, admits to the occasional Adele soundtrack in the shower. It's that mix of focus, personality, and humanity that makes him a natural fit for a team that values both performance and proper personal development.
